The Hulunbuir Border Road (checkpoint route) is known as "China's most beautiful border road," winding along the Ergun River with China on one side and Russia on the other. The 160km stretch from Checkpoint 9 to Checkpoint 5 concentrates Hulunbuir's finest border scenery.
🗺️ Route Highlights
Checkpoint 9: The first checkpoint from Shiwei, where the Ergun River makes a grand bend with Russian villages visible across the water.
Checkpoints 8-7: The road hugs the river with open views of Russian hills, villages, and watchtowers. Sheep and cattle dot the grasslands.
Taiji Bay (near Checkpoint 7): The river forms a natural S-curve resembling a Taiji symbol — the most iconic photo spot on the route.
Checkpoint 5 to Heishantou: Rolling hills and wide-open grassland. Sunset here is breathtaking.
