Fly to the grassland pearl city Hailar. Your guide/driver contacts you one day in advance; private airport/train pickup, hotel check-in and free time.
Theme: seek the winding Moergel River, wander the wetland and stay in a yurt under bonfire light. Visit Moergel River Grassland Scenic Area (about 1.5h), the 'No.1 winding river under heaven' written by Lao She, with a complimentary drone aerial shoot. Then visit Ergun Wetland (about 1.5h), known as 'Asia's most beautiful wetland'. Ride the Grassland Harmony sightseeing train (8.6km), enjoy unlimited grass sledding, join the large bonfire carnival and stay overnight in a grassland yurt.
Theme: horse riding on the grassland and the exotic border city of Manzhouli. Enjoy VIP horse riding at the exclusive ranch (about 30min) through golden grasslands and birch forests. Then head to Manzhouli to view the Matryoshka Square from outside (about 0.5h) and visit the National Gate Scenic Area (about 1h). In the evening, explore the lit-up European-style buildings at your leisure.
Theme: culture, equestrian show and the iconic train station. Visit Zhalainuoer Museum (closed Mondays), enjoy the Barga Mongolian 'Dance of Horses' equestrian show, view Meigui Peak from outside (about 0.5h), visit Wuli Spring (about 0.5h) with constant 6.3-6.8℃ water, and check in at the tiny century-old Arxan Railway Station (about 1h).
Theme: explore Arxan National Forest Park and its volcanic lakes and forests. Spend about 5 hours in the park, home to over 200 sq km of Asia's largest volcanic lava landforms: Wusulangzi Lake, Arxan Heavenly Lake, Azalea Lake, Santan Gorge, Tuofengling Heavenly Lake and Shitanglin. In autumn the lava landscape is set against blazing colorful forests.
Theme: a golden finale. Drive back to Hailar, passing Qixianhu Grassland and the 200km Liangyi Highway with autumn scenery along the way. Visit Genghis Khan Square (about 0.5h). Airport/train transfer according to your schedule, ending the Golden Autumn Arxan tour.
