Deep in the Great Khingan Mountains of Genhe lives China's only reindeer-herding people — the Aoluguya Evenki. For centuries they have raised reindeer and hunted in the primeval forest, known as "China's last hunting people."

🦌 Reindeer Culture

The Evenki's gentle reindeer with their iconic antlers feed on moss and lichen. Visitors can feed them moss and take close-up photos. In winter, frost-covered antlers create a magical sight.

🏕️ Traditional Life

The traditional Evenki dwelling is the "chirangzhu" (teepee), made of pine poles covered with birch bark — easy to dismantle for their nomadic hunting lifestyle. The Evenki are also skilled birch bark craftspeople.

📌 Tips

  • Allow 2-3 hours for the visit
  • Wear comfortable shoes; forest ground can be slippery
  • Use mosquito repellent in summer
  • Only feed moss provided by the site
